- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and green bell pepper. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until softened.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
- Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly.
- Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and honey. Stir until combined.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until thickened and saucy.
- Toast the hamburger buns if desired.
- Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the buns and garnish with sliced green onions before serving. For food safety, cook ground chicken to an internal temperature of 165°F as measured with a food thermometer.
Notes
For extra heat, add a few dashes of hot sauce to the sloppy joe mixture while it simmers.
