  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • Skillet

Method

  1. Heat a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes until the beef is fully browned and the onion is softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  5. Transfer the cooked beef mixture to the crockpot.
  6. Add the navy beans, ketchup, maple syrup, molasses, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  7. Stir everything together until fully combined.
  8. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours until thickened and bubbling.
  9. Stir before serving.

Notes

For even deeper flavor, make the baked beans a day ahead and reheat before serving. The sauce thickens and becomes richer overnight.
