- Place the chicken breasts in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Season the chicken with salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- In a bowl, whisk together barbecue sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and honey.
- Pour the barbecue sauce mixture over the chicken.
- Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 to 4 hours until the chicken is tender and easy to shred.
- Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
- Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir into the sauce.
- Let the chicken sit in the sauce for 10 minutes before serving.
- Serve on sandwich buns topped with coleslaw if desired.
Notes
For extra smoky flavor, use a hickory or mesquite style barbecue sauce.
